These masked ladies were greeting shoppers at the Cahors market on Saturday morning and remind me that while tomorrow is the beginning of Lent, today is Mardi Gras! Which is where the 'duh' happens. Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras...parties, parades, floats, wild and wicked behavior...last chance to celebrate before six weeks of fasting and repentance. Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday. Can you believe that after how many months of diligently studying French? After countless hours sweating over writing a story in French, translating French, watching my homework collect multiple French red marks After returning from dinners and aperos exhausted by the effort to listen to and try to respond to French. Can you believe that after all this hard work, it wasn't until this weekend that I realized...

Mardi is the French word for Tuesday.
Gras is the French word for Fat.
Voila...Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday in French!

  1. Hi I had been wondering how you were... Sounds like you are having fun and experiencing life. Love your flowers none of those here. More snow arrived today and lots of rain in the southern part of Iowa
