Sunrise....Moon Set

Lucie and I got into the habit of walking early this summer to avoid the heat. In truth, I prefer early, even before a cup of coffee. So, we began our day by walking at 6 AM; now, though, it's not quite light enough to be out until after 6:30 AM. Besides avoiding the heat of day, there are other benefits to walking early. The village is pretty much still asleep. I don't see many people, so I feel okay about being a bit raggedy and without makeup. Mostly, I run into the garbage collection guys. What a happy lot they are so early in the morning! Always laughing amongst themselves, always a big smiley 'bonjour!' for Lucie and me.

Here's another good reason to walk early...sunrise.

My friends still think it's crazy to be up walking so early....

What do you think?

I took these photos on our walk this morning. As we made our circuit around the village, I was reminded of the Navajo prayer, 'In Beauty May I Walk'.  It was definitely a beauty walk morning!

Working Hard!

Ann and Anita on the preau
Ann, Anita and I met yesterday afternoon at Anita's lovely restored schoolhouse in Mazerolles. It was an afternoon of hard work dedicated to critiquing our writing. We sweated over point-of-view, grammar, description, plot structure and flow. It was exhausting!

But first...this being France....we, of course, had to eat! A lovely meal of cold melon soup, scallops cooked in creme fraiche and parmesan cheese spiced with curry dolloped on apple slices, a yummy onion tart accompanied by sliced tomatoes dressed with balsamic vinegar, chunks of bread served with the cheese plate and yummy figs stuffed with a herb-laced soft cheese. Oh yes...and a chilled rose. Working hard in France is such a pleasure!!

Can't believe that I missed National Dog Day. That's what happens when you live in another country, I guess. I don't think France celebrates Dog Day! This little girl had no idea when she wandered onto my back deck where her life was going to go, did she?

Light on Stone

We met for morning prayer today in the lovely restored church in St. Peyronis. I'm endlessly intrigued by the play of light on stone. This light filtered through the stained glass window over the altar, then passed through the wrought iron altar railing to make this pretty pattern on the stone floor.
The original church on this site was built by the Templar Commanderie at Lacapelle-Livron in 1236. It was destroyed during the 100 Years' War.and the current structure was built in 1542. The restoration is lovely.
It's such a treat to be invited to use this church for our summer worship. Thank you, Pere Serge!

Time Flies

Time flies! It hardly seems possible that a year ago I was packing my bags for a two-week adventure in Ireland. What a rich and wonderful trip that was! Based in the vibrant and lively city of Galway, I spent eight days with a small group led by Christine Valters Painter and her husband, John on pilgrimage to some of Ireland's most ancient Celtic Christian sites. Fabulous memories that I'll be re-sharing occasionally with you over the next couple of weeks. Love the Long Walk along the Corrib River that connects Galway City with Galway Bay.

Colorful Carousel

The colorful carousel caught my eye as I crossed the Cele on the pedestrian bridge. Under the noon sun, all was quiet.
The helicopter was Life Flight blue...
Who doesn't like Donald?
Duck that is, not Trump
Definitely NOT Trump!
SpongeBob had a sleek green machine
Dora the Explorer, my favorite cartoon girl, cruised in purple.
All waited patiently for the children to finish lunch and come to ride.

River Trip

Travis, Becky, Marley and Parker setting off for a 3-day adventure on the Yellowstone River! Had to share this one since Becky rarely gets into an action photo...she's usually the one behind the camera! Looks like fun, doesn't it?

TBT: On the Boundary

Backpacking along the east boundary of Yellowstone circa 1980-ish. Because the photo quality isn't very good, even zoomed in I can't read the boundary sign, so I can't tell you exactly where we were. I know the view is of the Absarokas and I think we were at Jones Pass. I'll see if I can come up with a more exact location and let you know. 'expert' just confirmed that this is Jones Pass.

Butterfly Bush

I've brought home many baby buddleia plants from Laury's house. They grow literally like weeds around here. It's not uncommon to see baby plants poking up between the rocks in a stone wall or in cracks in the pavement. I've had good luck getting them to grow around my house where nothing else does very well. The joy of having them is that their blooms attracts all types of butterflies and bees. These two were sampling the flower nectar right outside my window. I loved the iridescent blue thumbprint each wears on the underside of their wings. The down side to buddleia plants is that they grow almost too well! They're threatening to take over  the windows they're planted by and if left to grow, they would also top the roof! As soon as they stop blooming, they are all getting drastic haircuts!
